African Development Bank Internship Program 2027: Monthly Stipend and Opportunities for Young Africans
Overview
The African Development Bank (AfDB) is accepting applications for Session 1 of its 2027 Internship Program, which starts in January 2027 and lasts between three and six months. Each person can take part only once. Depending on the hiring unit, interns work remotely or on-site, with on-site placements at headquarters in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, or in regional or country offices. The Bank was established in 1964, has 81 member states including 54 African countries, and works in areas such as infrastructure, agriculture, finance, human capital, governance and sustainability. The programme gives practical exposure and builds a pool of potential future recruits, but an internship does not guarantee employment.
Who can apply
Applicants must have reached the age of majority in their country of nationality or origin, be 30 or younger at the start of the internship, and be nationals of an AfDB member country. They must be enrolled in a master's-level programme at a recognized institution or apply within one year of obtaining a master's degree, and provide proof of enrolment or a copy of the degree. Proficiency in English or French is required. Women are strongly encouraged to apply.
Requirements
Applicants should use Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access, with SAP desirable. Relevant fields include agriculture, human capital, engineering, investment, operations management and programming, sustainability, procurement, risk management, finance, economics, statistics and data management, governance, natural resource and knowledge management, human resources, information management technology, real estate management, communication, translation and interpretation, legal and corporate governance. Special consideration may go to students whose projects relate to the Bank's mission. Remote interns need a personal computer, reliable internet and a suitable working environment.
What you get
Interns receive a monthly stipend, with no exact amount published, and medical insurance during the internship. Those on site pay for their own travel and upkeep, though the Bank makes reasonable efforts to help with entry and residence visas.
How to apply
Applicants complete the online application on the Bank's recruitment portal, choosing the External Candidate option if they are not AfDB employees, and attach a comprehensive CV along with proof of master's enrolment or degree.
Key dates
Applications run from 28 September to 12 October 2026, and applicants are expected to be notified of outcomes by 30 November 2026.
