Overview

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has opened applications for Session 1 of its 2027 Internship Program, which begins in January 2027. Interns may be placed at the Bank's headquarters in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, or at Regional or Country Offices, and depending on the hiring unit the internship may be remote or on-site. Internships last between three and six months, and a person may take part only once. Completing one does not guarantee employment.

The Bank was established in 1964 and supports economic growth and social progress across Africa. Relevant fields include agriculture and human development, engineering and infrastructure, economics and statistics, finance and investment, sustainability and climate, procurement, risk management, governance, data management, information technology, human resources, communication, legal affairs, translation and interpretation, natural-resource management, corporate governance and performance monitoring.

Who can apply

Applicants must be nationals of an African Development Bank member country and aged 30 or younger by 31 December 2026. They must hold a bachelor's degree and either be enrolled in a master's programme at a recognized institution or apply within one year of obtaining a master's degree. Proof of enrollment or a degree certificate is required.

Requirements

Candidates must communicate effectively in English or French, with knowledge of the other language an advantage. They should be comfortable with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access, and knowledge of SAP is desirable. Remote interns need their own computer, reliable internet and a suitable working environment.

What you get

Interns receive a monthly stipend and medical insurance paid by the Bank. Those on-site cover their own travel to and from the location and their personal upkeep, though the Bank may give reasonable help with entry and residence visas.

How to apply

Applicants complete an online application with a comprehensive CV, a master's enrollment or degree certificate and a letter of motivation. The Bank states that it never asks for payment or bank-account details from applicants.

Key dates

Applications opened on 28 September 2026 and close on 12 October 2026. Selected candidates are expected to start from January 2027.
