University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowships (UMGF) In Canada (Funded)
Overview
The University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowships (UMGF) recognise outstanding academic achievement and research potential among graduate students at the University of Manitoba in Canada. They provide financial support to Master's and PhD students so they can concentrate on their studies and research. The fellowship is open to all disciplines eligible for Tri-Agency funding.
Who can apply
The fellowship is open to international and domestic students alike. Applicants must be enrolled full-time in a Master's or PhD programme that is eligible for Tri-Agency funding, with a minimum GPA of 3.0, although departments may require a higher figure. They must show strong research potential and academic promise, keep a GPA of at least 3.0 with no grade below C+, and have no active admission-related hold on their student account.
Recipients must not hold another award of equal or greater value than the UMGF, cannot change departments or programmes during the funding period, and must not have held UMGF funding for more than 4 years in total. Students who cannot accept their award within the same academic year must decline the offer. Full rules are set out in the Award Holder's Guide from the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.
What you get
The Master's fellowship is worth $20,000 per year for 12 or 24 months, up to $40,000 in total. The doctoral fellowship is worth $25,000 per year for 12, 24, 36 or 48 months, up to $100,000 in total. Each department or unit decides the value and duration of an award according to the student's progression and academic standing.
How to apply
Applications are handled by individual departments or units. Students should ask their department about its internal UMGF procedure and deadline. Departments review applicants and nominate selected students to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (FGPS), which reviews all nominations and sends official award letters to successful recipients by email.
