Overview

The University of Twente Scholarship provides financial support to talented international students pursuing a master's degree at the University of Twente in the Netherlands. The award is valued between €3,000 and €22,000 for one year and is intended to help compensate recipients for study-related expenses.

Who can apply

The scholarship is designed for academically excellent students from countries outside the European Union and European Economic Area who are not eligible for a Dutch study loan. Applicants must have applied for an eligible University of Twente master's programme beginning in September 2027 and received a conditional or unconditional admission letter. Candidates must demonstrate outstanding academic performance by typically ranking among the top 5 to 10 percent of their graduating class, meet the English-language requirements with an Academic IELTS score of 6.5 or a TOEFL iBT score of 90 along with specific speaking subscores, and satisfy conditions for obtaining an entry visa where applicable. Dutch students, EU or EEA students, current University of Twente students, students paying the statutory tuition fee, applicants to pre-master's programmes, and applicants to master's programmes offered by the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation are excluded.

What you get

Successful applicants receive an award ranging from €3,000 to €22,000 for one year to manage study-related expenses. For students enrolled in a two-year master's programme, an additional scholarship for the second year may be received, matching the amount awarded in the first year, provided specific academic progress requirements are met by the end of the third quartile of the first year.

Requirements

Recipients of a two-year scholarship must achieve an average grade of at least 7 out of 10 and obtain at least 50 percent of the required European Credits by the end of the third quartile of the first year. Scholarship recipients must also inform the university's scholarship coordinator if they become eligible for the statutory tuition fee after receiving the award, as the scholarship will be cancelled.

How to apply

Applicants must first complete the master's admission process by choosing an eligible master's programme, submitting required documents, obtaining a conditional or unconditional admission letter, and securing a University of Twente student number. Once the scholarship application window opens, candidates can apply through the university's scholarship process. Applicants interested in the Kipaji Scholarship must indicate their interest in their scholarship application motivation.

Key dates

Applications for programmes beginning in September 2027 open on 15 October 2026 at 09:00 CET and close on 1 April 2027 at 16:00 CET. Scholarship results are expected to be announced during the first week of May 2027.
