Overview

The Department of Economics at City St George’s, University of London offers a PhD programme in economics with full-time and part-time study options starting in October of every year. The department consists of over 50 members across three research groups and two research centres, producing research in areas such as health economics, macroeconomics, finance, applied microeconomics, and economic theory. The programme spans three years for full-time students or seven years for part-time students, providing opportunities to take PhD-level courses, attend research seminars, and participate in advanced training programmes.

Requirements

Applicants to the PhD programme must hold an MSc in Economics or a related field. Prospective students are advised to review the research conducted by the faculty and contact potential supervisors to discuss their research project prior to applying.

What you get

Four fully funded scholarships are available, comprising two departmental studentships, one school studentship, and one SENSS scholarship through the SENSS Doctoral Training Partnership. These fully funded awards cover full student fees, a stipend, and research expenses for the first three years. Applicants who do not receive a full scholarship are considered for a partial studentship. This partial award includes a full tuition fee waiver for UK and international fees for three years, a guaranteed offer of paid teaching experience of up to 180 hours per year subject to a competence-based interview, and a total of £1,500 in research expenses across the first three years.
