Overview

King's Business School invites applications for funded, full-time PhD studentships in Economic Studies, with studies set to begin in October 2027. The programme aims to attract talented and enthusiastic students aspiring to be future academic leaders. Upon completion, the award states a PhD in the relevant subject area tied to the academic department, such as Economics or Banking and Finance. The school is situated in central London within Bush House. Applicants can pursue research across accounting and financial management, banking and finance, and economics.

Who can apply

Applications are open to individuals who qualify as Home or International students for fee purposes. To be considered for the studentship, applicants must already have secured supervisory support prior to submitting an application. Candidates are required to contact potential supervisors to discuss their research proposals beforehand, and supervisors must indicate their willingness to supervise the applicant before the submission.

What you get

The studentships cover tuition fees for three years, the pending submission status fee, and a stipend of approximately £23,000 per annum, with the 2026-27 rate set at £23,805 for four years featuring annual inflationary increases. Additionally, recipients receive a generous training and conference grant, alongside extra paid teaching and research opportunities.

Key dates

The admissions portal opens on 20th October 2026, and the final deadline to submit applications is 1st December 2026 at 11:59pm. Admissions decisions will be announced in early 2027. An online masterclass offering tips and insights for embarking on a doctoral journey is scheduled for Friday 13th November 2026, from 15:00 to 16:30 GMT.
