Overview

The World Uyghur Congress (WUC) is hiring an Advocacy Officer for UN and Multilateral Engagement at its headquarters in Munich, Germany. The post is full-time and open-ended. The WUC is an international umbrella organisation promoting democracy, human rights, freedom and the rule of law for the Uyghur people through peaceful, non-violent advocacy, with offices in Munich, Berlin, Brussels and Istanbul. The officer joins the advocacy team and represents the organisation before the United Nations, governments, parliaments and civil society coalitions.

The work covers four areas. In advocacy and representation, the officer leads initiatives aimed at UN institutions and delivers speeches, briefings and oral statements. In research and communications, the officer drafts reports and statements, prepares submissions to UN human rights mechanisms including Treaty Bodies and the Universal Periodic Review, and responds to media. In project and grant management, the officer coordinates donor-funded projects, monitors budgets and prepares donor reports. In team coordination, the officer supports workflow, scheduling and administrative procedures.

Applicants need at least two years of experience in human rights advocacy, policy or a related field, strong knowledge of the UN human rights system, excellent written and verbal communication, public speaking experience, a university degree (a master's is an advantage), strong organisation and analysis, the ability to work independently to deadlines, and willingness to travel regularly. Knowledge of the Uyghur situation or human rights in China is a significant advantage, as is experience with grant management, donor reporting, Monday.com, Microsoft Office and social media platforms. English fluency is mandatory, and German, French, Uyghur, Turkish, Mandarin or other languages are desirable.
