Overview

World Renew is hiring a Temporary Safeguarding Specialist to strengthen safeguarding systems, policies, risk management and accountability across its operations in Canada and the United States. The post is fully remote, expected to last 90 days with a possible extension of up to 120 days, and pays 40 to 45 Canadian dollars per hour. The specialist reports to the Global Director, Safeguarding and Accountability and helps keep practice aligned with World Renew's global commitments, the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS) and Canadian and U.S. legal and regulatory frameworks.

Duties include reviewing, developing and improving safeguarding policies, procedures, standards and tools; assessing strengths, risks and gaps; developing risk assessment and mitigation tools for sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment; supporting teams in managing risks; building survivor-centered approaches into programme design; supporting refugee resettlement and community-based programming; designing and delivering training; producing practical resources and guides; supporting organizational improvement; monitoring indicators under the CHS and CAPSEAH frameworks; preparing reports and briefings for leadership; and maintaining records.

Who can apply

The opportunity is available to candidates in the United States or Canada who have permanent work authorization at the time of hire; no visa sponsorship is indicated. Applicants should have an advanced degree in social work, law, international development, human rights, protection, safeguarding or a related field and at least seven years of progressively responsible experience in safeguarding, protection, child protection, accountability or PSEAH. They need experience developing safeguarding systems, policies, training and risk tools, ideally with NGOs, humanitarian organizations or development agencies, and familiarity with the CHS, safeguarding audits, complaint mechanisms and survivor-centered approaches. Experience in Canadian or U.S. programme contexts is strongly preferred.

Requirements

Skills include facilitation, training, coaching, analysis, writing, documentation, reporting and stakeholder engagement. Fluency in English is required, and other languages are an asset. The role involves extensive computer work and reading, with occasional lifting and setup of training materials.
