Women’s Justice Initiative Seeks Director of Development and Communications | Remote Role | Apply by September 28, 2026
Overview
The Women's Justice Initiative (WJI) is looking for a Director of Development and Communications to lead its fundraising, communications and external engagement strategies. This is a senior leadership role working closely with the Executive Director and leadership team. It is remote, with an option to be based in Antigua, Guatemala, and is available for an immediate start. The salary is competitive and depends on experience and location.
WJI works to combat gender inequality and prevent violence against Indigenous women and girls in rural communities, combining education, access to legal services, gender-based violence prevention and systems strengthening. It operates in more than 150 communities in Guatemala's Chimaltenango and Sololá departments.
What the role involves
The Director leads the Communications and Development department and sets its priorities, goals, systems and processes. On fundraising, they develop and carry out a resource development strategy, oversee the full cycle from identifying funders through proposals, stewardship, reporting and renewals, lead major campaigns and events including the Strategic Growth Campaign, and report on performance to the Executive Director and Board. On communications, they oversee strategy and consistent messaging across the website, social media, newsletters, annual reports and presentations, and work with programme and impact teams to turn results into compelling stories.
Requirements
Candidates need at least five years of progressive experience in fundraising, development, communications or a related field, at least two years in communications or marketing, and experience managing a small team. A proven record of securing five- and six-figure multi-year institutional grants is expected. Fluency in English and proficiency in Spanish are required. Technical skills should include Microsoft Office, Excel, Google Drive and Salesforce CRM, with Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress or MailChimp preferred. A bachelor's degree in a field such as international relations, international development, gender studies or communications is needed, and a master's is strongly preferred. Experience in Latin America, especially Central America or Guatemala, is an advantage.
