Women’s Justice Initiative Director of Development and Communications Job 2026: Remote Opportunity – Apply by September 28
Overview
The Women's Justice Initiative (WJI) is looking for a Director of Development and Communications to lead fundraising, communications, donor engagement and external relations. WJI works to combat gender inequality and prevent violence against Indigenous women and girls in rural Guatemala, using rights education, access to legal services, prevention of gender-based violence and systems strengthening. It currently works in more than 150 communities in the departments of Chimaltenango and Solola.
The Director reports closely to the Executive Director, sits on the senior leadership team, leads the Communications and Development department, and helps shape WJI's profile, fundraising strategy, partnerships and growth. The position is remote, with an option to be based in Antigua, Guatemala, and the start date is immediate. Salary is competitive and depends on experience and location.
Who can apply
Applicants need at least five years of progressive experience in fundraising, development, communications or a related field, including at least two years in communications or marketing, and a proven record of securing five- and six-figure multi-year institutional grants. A bachelor's degree in international relations, international development, gender studies, communications or a related field is required, and a master's is strongly preferred. Other requirements include fluent English, proficiency in Spanish, experience managing a small team and working with a nonprofit board, strong organisational and writing skills, Microsoft Office and Google Drive proficiency, Salesforce CRM experience, and the ability to work in multicultural settings. Experience living or working in Latin America, especially Central America or Guatemala, is preferred.
Requirements
The role covers the full fundraising cycle: identifying and cultivating donors, writing grant proposals and reports, managing institutional and individual giving, stewardship and renewals, campaigns and events, supporting the Strategic Growth Campaign, diversifying revenue, and reporting results to leadership and the Board. It also covers communications across the website, social media, newsletters, annual reports, presentations and donor materials, turning program evidence into compelling stories.
