Overview

Womankind Worldwide is hiring a Programme Manager for the Strengthening Activists and Defenders project. This initiative is a three-year feminist programme funded by Norad that supports Women Human Rights Defenders across Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nepal, Uganda and Zimbabwe. The position is a part-time, three-year fixed-term contract offering 0.6 FTE, which equates to three days per week.

The role is hybrid and can be based in either Kenya or the UK. The Programme Manager will coordinate the STAND partnership, oversee daily project delivery, manage financial monitoring, support donor compliance, coordinate monitoring, evaluation and learning activities, and foster collaboration among partners in Africa and Asia. International travel to project countries may be required when safe and operationally feasible, and occasional early-morning or evening meetings may be necessary due to multiple time zones.

What you get

The annual salary ranges from £57,933.01 to £61,571.91. Benefits include a generous pension scheme, flexible working arrangements, paid dependency leave, 25 days of annual leave on a pro-rata basis, public holidays and additional leave during the festive period.

Who can apply

Applicants must possess the legal right to work in either Kenya or the UK. Candidates should hold a relevant degree or equivalent professional experience in fields such as international development, gender studies, human rights or social sciences.

Requirements

Applicants must have experience managing multi-country, donor-funded programmes or consortia across the project cycle, along with experience managing substantial multi-partner budgets, forecasts and donor compliance. Familiarity with Norad or a similar institutional donor is considered an advantage. Candidates must also bring demonstrable monitoring, evaluation and learning experience, including supporting partners to generate and use evidence and coordinating cross-country learning. Direct experience working with women’s rights organisations, feminist movements or Women Human Rights Defenders is important, while experience managing programmes in politically sensitive, insecure or rapidly changing environments is desirable. Strong communication, coordination, facilitation and relationship-building skills are required, along with sound judgement, integrity and a commitment to feminist partnership principles.

How to apply

Eligible candidates must apply through the official Womankind Worldwide careers page.
