Overview
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is hiring a Project Manager in its Digital Services, Information Technology Division. The post is a full-time Regular Consultancy Contract (CST Level II) for 11 months. It is listed under Rome, Italy, but the duty station is remote working. WFP is the world's largest humanitarian organisation, working to save lives in emergencies and using food assistance to support recovery, stability, peace and resilience.
What the role involves
The manager helps lead complex technology initiatives across business units, acting as the central coordination point between business stakeholders, technical teams and external implementation partners. The aim is to deliver IT solutions with strong usability, user acceptance, quality and fit with business needs. Duties include coordinating portfolios of IT projects, understanding requirements, managing documentation, governance, communication and work plans, supporting Human-Centered Design in gathering requirements, defining Minimum Viable Products, managing schedules, risks, issues, dependencies and change requests, monitoring progress against timelines, budgets and baselines, managing stakeholder expectations, preparing and monitoring budgets and resources, ensuring compliance with WFP's project management and IT standards, and supporting both Agile and Waterfall approaches.
Who can apply
Applicants should hold a university degree in Business Administration, Economics, Information Technology or a related field. Project management education or certification is desirable. At least five years of professional project management experience across the full lifecycle is required, with IT projects particularly desirable, plus knowledge of Agile and Waterfall methods and project management software. An IT or software development background, understanding of data and analytics, experience with cross-functional teams, multi-vendor projects and budgets, and strong communication and problem-solving are expected.
Requirements
Fluent English is required. A second official UN language such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish is desirable, as is Portuguese.
