Overview
Armed Conflict Location & Event Data (ACLED) is recruiting a Visualization and Digital Communication Specialist for its Global Risk Center. ACLED is an independent, impartial organization that monitors political violence, conflict and protest worldwide, and its data is used by researchers, journalists, policymakers, humanitarian organizations and governments. The job is full-time and fully remote, and can be done from anywhere with reliable internet access. The specialist reports to the Manager of Risk Outputs.
What the role involves
The person hired turns complex conflict datasets into maps, graphs and other visual stories of publishable quality. Duties include producing regional, thematic and global visual outputs, writing and updating guidelines for data visualization, researching new tools and methods, and supporting innovation in ACLED's visual reporting and brand identity. The role also contributes to Global Risk Center and External Affairs outputs, helps answer journalist enquiries, supports outreach with media and partners, assists in assessing brand reputation and reach, and checks that visuals accurately reflect the underlying data.
Requirements
The organization would ideally like a master's degree in political science, social sciences, geography, conflict studies or a related field, plus at least three years in a research setting and experience in conflict analysis. Demonstrated use of Tableau and GIS is expected, and experience with ACLED data is preferred. Fluency in English, strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle feedback and tight deadlines are required. Writing and editing skills and knowledge of other data-analysis tools or programming languages are advantages.
What you get
The salary is US$42,000-US$45,000 per year, with a start date as soon as possible.
