Overview

The United Nations University Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and of Resources (UNU-FLORES), based in Dresden, Germany, is building a roster of Adjunct Professors and Researchers for its Resource Nexus work. This is a talent pool rather than a single post: selected experts may be contacted for suitable short-term assignments or projects when opportunities arise. The opportunity has been described as an on-site Dresden or remote roster, depending on the assignment.

UNU-FLORES works on the sustainable and integrated management of resources such as water, soil, waste and energy. The Resource Nexus approach looks at how these systems interact and how decisions about one resource affect others.

What the work covers

Roster members may take part in research and innovation, collaborating with junior and senior researchers on interdisciplinary projects spanning areas such as sustainable resource management, transformed landscapes, sustainable buildings and construction, responsible electronics, circular textiles, food systems and climate.

They may contribute to peer-reviewed articles, books, policy briefs and reports, and provide policy analysis that turns academic evidence into recommendations. They may also support research funding and fundraising, teaching, training and workshops in education and capacity development, and outreach, advocacy and partnership activities.

Who can apply

The call targets experienced researchers and academics. A PhD in a field relevant to the integrated management of environmental resources is required, together with a minimum of five years of post-PhD research experience and a strong publication record in integrated resource management. Relevant backgrounds include environmental sciences, natural-resource management, sustainability, water, soil and waste management, energy systems, climate research, circular economy, sustainable development and environmental policy.

Requirements

Strong analytical and research skills, written and verbal communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, policy analysis, project planning, capacity development, teaching or training experience, partnership development and fundraising or proposal development are all valued. Candidates who show how their work links several resource systems are likely to stand out.
