Overview

The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is recruiting a Project Manager for Implementation in Infrastructure Asset Management. The post was published on 26 August 2026 and sits in the UNOPS Global Portfolios Office, which helps partners deliver projects on sustainable development, climate action and peacebuilding. It is a senior role for someone able to manage complex, multi-country projects with governments, donors and development partners.

The first assignment supports a project led by the UN DESA Financing for Sustainable Development Office in partnership with UNOPS. It aims to strengthen infrastructure asset management in Kenya, The Gambia, Uganda, Zambia, Senegal and the Federated States of Micronesia, helping national and local governments plan, manage and maintain public infrastructure better through stronger governance, improved data and climate resilience.

The Project Manager runs projects from initiation to closure, controlling time, cost, scope, quality, risks and benefits, and acts as a coordination point among donors, government authorities, partners and beneficiaries while keeping delivery in line with contracts and UNOPS standards. The work includes planning and monitoring, reporting, risk mitigation, quality assurance, technical assistance, training and workshops, infrastructure data analysis, national and subnational assessments, and supporting officials in using tools from the UN Handbook on Infrastructure Asset Management.

Requirements

Applicants need either an advanced university degree, preferably in engineering, architecture, public administration or international relations, with five years of relevant experience, or a first-level degree with seven years. A project management certification is desirable. Candidates should have experience implementing complex, multi-country infrastructure asset management projects with donors, national and subnational governments and implementing partners in developing countries, and be able to analyse cross-sectoral infrastructure data and build climate resilience, sustainability and inclusion into assessments and capacity-building tools. Experience with Infrastructure Asset Management Assessments in Africa or the Pacific, with asset management plans, and in the UN system is desirable. Fluent English is required, and other UN languages are desirable.
