Overview

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is recruiting a Digital Economies Analyst to support its work on digital transformation, blockchain, digital finance and frontier technology. The position is home-based and open to internal and external applicants. It carries an International Personnel Service Agreement at grade IPSA-8 with an initial one-year contract, full-time, under the Innovation practice area of the Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS. The analyst works under the coordination of a Project Manager and is part of the Istanbul Regional Hub.

The hub's Alternative Finance Lab has used blockchain and frontier technologies for sustainable development since 2015. Its initiatives include the SDG Blockchain Accelerator, which has supported more than 40 use cases, the Government Blockchain Academy and the UNDP Blockchain Academy, which has trained more than 500 UN personnel. UNDP is also working with the Stellar Development Foundation on blockchain-based payment solutions, with research in 17 countries and pilots in Haiti, Syria, Kenya, Guatemala and The Gambia.

Requirements

The analyst supports at least five country offices in Europe and the CIS and eight globally in implementing and scaling digital payment solutions. Duties include coordinating with solution providers, country teams and governments, tracking pilots against milestones, identifying further offices that could use proven models, and writing replication packages on topics such as cross-border remittances, stablecoin payment infrastructure and SME financing. The analyst also coordinates applied research, supports the third cohort of the SDG Blockchain Accelerator by helping shape the curriculum, review applications and match offices with providers, and contributes to knowledge management and ICT training.

Applicants need an advanced degree in business administration, public administration, economics, political science, social sciences, health sciences or a related field. A Bachelor's degree with at least two years of relevant experience in financial technologies may be considered. Experience in fintech, digital payments, financial inclusion, national digital transformation or blockchain applications is advantageous, as is UN experience. Candidates should understand how blockchain works, be able to advise governments on opportunities and risks, and have strong data analysis and visualisation skills. English is required.
