Overview

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is recruiting a Programme Analyst for its Nature, Climate and Energy practice area. The post is at the NOA grade on a full-time, one-year fixed-term contract with the possibility of extension, and is open to both internal and external applicants.

The role supports UNDP programmes on climate change mitigation and adaptation, biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. Working under programme leadership, the analyst provides substantive support to programme management in assigned thematic areas, including research, programme development, quality assurance, partnerships and resource mobilization. Relevant technical areas include climate strategies and policy, and nature, covering ecosystems, biodiversity and natural resource management.

Duties include contributing to programme strategies and policies, analyzing proposals and supporting implementation procedures. The analyst also handles planning, budgeting, monitoring and risk management, tracking financial resources, applying results-based management tools, contributing to reporting and assisting with audits. A further focus is building partnerships with UN agencies, international financial institutions, governments, donors, civil society and, where applicable, the private sector, including researching donor information, preparing briefs and helping develop programme and project proposals.

Requirements

Applicants should hold an advanced university degree, such as a master's or equivalent, in natural resources management, climate change, sustainability and environmental studies, public administration, economics, political science, social sciences or a related field. Master's holders need no professional experience. A bachelor's degree can be considered with at least two years of relevant experience, for example in advisory services or in designing, monitoring and evaluating development projects in nature and climate.

Experience with office software, databases and web-based management systems such as ERP is required. Advantageous experience includes multisectoral coordination, integrated programming, UN policies and programmes, policy advisory work, advocacy, donor engagement and resource mobilization. Fluency in English and Arabic is required, and another UN language is an asset.
