Overview

The Wilderness Society is hiring a Sr. Conservation Manager, Conservation Campaigns, to support conservation campaigns, public lands initiatives, coalition building and community engagement across the United States. The salary is $92,000 to $108,000 per year depending on location. The job is regular employment, reports to the National Campaign Director and requires about 3 to 5 days of travel per month. Remote work is available in eligible states: Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, California, Utah, Idaho, Washington and Oregon, or at a TWS office where applicable.

What you will do

The manager contributes to conservation designation campaigns, land planning and stewardship, and state-level policy work, builds new coalitions, leads existing partnerships and advises local partners. Much of the job is building relationships with elected officials and their staff, nonprofits, agency representatives, lawyers, scientists, industry representatives, public land users and grassroots activists, while making sure the work reflects community needs. The manager represents the organization at events, maintains contact with decision-makers and media, may write fact sheets, blogs and action alerts, may act as a spokesperson, and works with colleagues in government relations, research, policy, legal, communications and fundraising. The role may include managing staff or contractors and supporting fundraising through proposals, reports and donor events.

Requirements

Applicants need at least seven years of progressively more complex experience in advocacy or issue campaigns, political campaigns, natural resource management or public policy, and a record of building relationships with varied stakeholders. Knowledge of public lands, environmental issues or conservation is important. The role calls for strong written and verbal communication, strategic thinking, leadership, the ability to juggle priorities, to work independently and to travel to target states, Washington, D.C., and elsewhere.

What you get

Benefits may include health, dental and vision insurance, life and disability insurance, pet insurance, sick and vacation leave, a sabbatical program and a retirement plan with employer contributions.

How to apply

Candidates submit a resume and cover letter through the online application system, after checking the remote location rules.

Key dates

The deadline is October 18, 2026.
