Overview

The Engineering Development Trust is offering a part-time hybrid role for a Student Engagement Officer to inspire young people to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The position is a fixed-term maternity cover contract running from mid-November 2026 to January 2028. The selected candidate will contribute to programme delivery, student recruitment, communications, relationship management, and administrative support while working to connect students, schools, teachers, parents, and industry partners with STEM opportunities.

Who can apply

Candidates should have experience in student recruitment, education engagement, outreach, event coordination, or customer-facing education roles. Applicants need strong communication skills for interacting with young people, teachers, and parents, alongside strong organisational and administrative abilities with attention to detail. Experience using CRM systems such as HubSpot is useful, though candidates able to learn new systems quickly are also considered. A genuine interest in STEM education, youth development, and creating opportunities for young people is important.

What you get

The salary ranges from £27,300 to £32,400 per year full-time equivalent, depending on skills and experience. The position is part-time at 22.5 hours per week, which is equivalent to 0.6 full-time equivalent. Additional benefits include 25 days of annual leave plus bank holidays on a pro-rata basis, an employer pension contribution of up to 10%, and life insurance worth three times the annual salary.

Requirements

Applicants must be within commuting distance of one of the organisation's offices located in Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, Welwyn Garden City, and Southampton, with a preference for candidates based in the South. The role involves hybrid working along with occasional travel and overnight stays, meaning it is not a fully remote position.

How to apply

Interested individuals must submit their application through the official vacancy application process before the closing deadline. Applications should demonstrate the candidate's experience in student engagement, education, outreach, programme delivery, event coordination, or related work, while highlighting strong communication and organisational skills and an interest in helping young people access STEM careers.

Key dates

The application deadline is 18 October 2026 at 23:30. The contract period runs from mid-November 2026 to January 2028.
