Overview

Solidarités International is recruiting a Flying Country Director, known in French as Directeur.trice Pays Volant.e, to give senior leadership support across its humanitarian missions. The post belongs to the Operational Support Staff team. When deployed, the director works under the relevant Regional Director and mainly fills Country Director vacancies or operational gaps, taking on the responsibilities of a Country Director in line with each assignment's terms of reference.

Solidarités International has provided assistance to people affected by armed conflict and natural disasters for more than 40 years, focusing on water, sanitation and hygiene, food security, livelihoods and shelter. It operates in 26 countries with about 3,200 people.

Country Director duties include representing the organization to authorities and stakeholders, developing and implementing the mission strategy, ensuring projects follow its charter and contractual obligations, mobilising financial and material resources, coordinating teams, supporting staff safety and security, analysing humanitarian and political developments and strengthening local partnerships and capacity.

Who can apply

Applicants should hold a university degree, preferably a master's in political science, international relations, humanitarian assistance or a related field. They need more than five years in the humanitarian sector, about 3 to 4 years in an equivalent position, experience managing humanitarian operations in volatile security settings, and knowledge of access challenges and negotiations with ministries and authorities. Familiarity with WASH, food security and livelihoods, shelter, cash programming, rapid response mechanisms, Nexus approaches and community participation is expected. English and French are mandatory, and Spanish is an advantage.

What you get

The six-month expatriate fixed-term contract pays a gross salary from 3,400 euros per month, adjusted for relevant NGO experience. It includes a per diem and accommodation during deployments, one recovery day for each weekend worked in the field, 25 days of paid annual leave, health and insurance coverage and fully covered repatriation insurance.
