Overview

The Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA) Network is recruiting for two full-time positions at its Regional Secretariat: Regional Communications Officer and Regional Editorial & Knowledge Management Officer. Both posts are for people committed to women's rights, gender equality, peace, security and social justice across the Greater Horn of Africa. Each can be done virtually or in person, requires travel, and reports to the Regional Director.

What you will do

The Regional Communications Officer carries out SIHA's regional communications strategy and annual plans. Tasks include producing publications, newsletters, reports, policy briefs, press releases, blogs, opinion pieces, speeches and impact stories, managing website and social media content and branding, supporting country teams, strengthening media engagement and advocacy campaigns, amplifying the voices of women and girls, supporting digital advocacy and responses to technology-facilitated gender-based violence, coordinating service providers and maintaining asset repositories.

The Editorial & Knowledge Management Officer leads editorial review, copy-editing, proofreading and quality assurance for research reports, policy papers, advocacy briefs, training materials and donor publications. They turn research and programme evidence into accessible knowledge products, maintain the style guide and templates, support digital content, mentor staff and strengthen documentation and organisational learning.

Requirements

For both roles, a master's degree in a relevant field is preferred, though a bachelor's degree with substantial experience may be considered. Both require at least five years of relevant experience, strong writing and editing skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office. The communications role calls for civil society, NGO, development or media experience and knowledge of digital communications and branding. The editorial role calls for editorial, publishing, research communications or knowledge management experience, plus WordPress and Mailchimp skills. Experience in women's rights, gender equality or social justice is highly desirable.

How to apply

SIHA is an equal opportunity employer that particularly encourages qualified women, and gives preference to candidates residing in Africa with knowledge of the Greater Horn of Africa. Applicants submit a cover letter and detailed CV combined into one PDF through the designated application links. Only shortlisted candidates are contacted.

Key dates

The deadline for both positions is 21 August 2026.
