The post is virtual, though frequent regional and international travel may be required. It is a one-year renewable contract starting as soon as possible, and the officer reports to the Knowledge Management Lead while working with the Programme Management, Communications, Documentation, MEL and country teams. Pay depends on qualifications and experience.

What the role involves

The officer coordinates and contributes to research projects, helps produce research reports, position papers and briefings, reviews and edits outputs, and uses findings to shape advocacy strategy. Other tasks include identifying emerging research needs, monitoring calls for papers, supporting research launches, preparing human rights submissions, country reports and press statements, and supporting publications such as the SIHA Journal, Women in Islam, manuals and guides. The officer works with country offices and regional coordinators to sharpen advocacy priorities.

Who can apply

They must show experience in qualitative sociological, socio-legal, feminist or human rights research, strong written English, analytical skills and experience in the human rights or NGO sector. Detailed knowledge of Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia, Somaliland, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Uganda is essential. French, Arabic, Amharic or Somali is an advantage.
