Overview

The University of Warwick is seeking a Senior Research Technician to join the School of Life Sciences and help shape a new research team studying plant cell biology. The projects focus on fundamental processes that enable plant cells to perceive and respond to their environment, alongside examining how these processes differ in other eukaryotes such as marine algae. This work offers insights into plant-environment interactions and the evolution of fundamental cell biology across the tree of life.

The position is on a full-time, fixed-term contract basis and is performed entirely on site. The closing date for applications is Sunday 6 December 2026 at 11:59 PM UK time. Interviews will be held at a later date to be confirmed. Applicants may include any career breaks, such as parental, caring, or long-term sick leave, part-time work, secondments, or periods of work restriction due to the COVID-19 pandemic, within their application.

What you get

The salary for this role ranges from £31,861 to £35,302 per annum. Technical training and career mentoring are provided to support the successful candidate in developing new skills.

Requirements

Applicants must have hands-on experience of growing and maintaining plants in a laboratory, greenhouse, or another controlled environment. Candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to keep plants or cell cultures healthy on a routine basis with accurate records, work independently on routine tasks, keep stocks, inventories, and personal workload organized, and collaborate effectively within a team while sharing knowledge and skills with colleagues and students. Experience in molecular biology, plant transformation, cell culture, or microscopy is considered an advantage, though full training will be provided for those who are curious about the science and eager to develop their expertise.

How to apply

Applications are submitted through the vacancy advert on the University of Warwick's jobs pages. Further information about the role can be requested by contacting Alex Johnson.
