Senior Mechatronics Engineer
Overview
Lightcastdiscovery is hiring a Senior Mechatronics Engineer based in Cambridge, United Kingdom. The employer develops a benchtop laboratory instrument platform that utilizes microfluidics and software-generated light patterns to control aqueous microdroplets for drug discovery and biological research. Visa sponsorship may be offered for suitable candidates.
Requirements
Candidates need a background in Electronics, Mechatronics or Mechanical Engineering, with extensive experience delivering complex systems and a focus on designing and debugging systems where hardware, firmware and control intersect. Applicants should possess a strong technical track record in designing complex mechatronic products for function, reliability, manufacture, serviceability and cost, alongside a hands-on and analytical approach to problem solving and debugging. Additional qualifications include full end-to-end development experience in mechatronic and electronic systems, as well as deep subject matter expertise in developing and delivering complex measurement systems and instrumentation. Advantageous qualifications include embedded programming experience, use of Python or similar languages, and experience developing life science products, opto-mechanics, precision motion control and fluidics systems. Familiarity with multidisciplinary environments, MCAD, and ECAD is also beneficial.
What you do
The role involves working with development, manufacturing and support teams to design, develop, deliver and maintain the platform and microfluidic products, with a strong focus on electro-mechanical system architecture designs. Responsibilities include taking a key position in system engineering activities, devising and delivering system tests, functional characterisation, and verification tests. The engineer acts as a subject matter expert for technical reviews of projects, creates technical documentation of design outputs and rationale, and provides leadership in product engineering practice, process development, and definition. The position also requires leading and participating in risk mitigation, design reviews, verification, and change control.
