Senior Infrastructure Software Engineer

Overview

Lightning AI is hiring a Senior Infrastructure Software Engineer to join the Infrastructure Engineering team. The team constructs the software systems responsible for operating and managing large-scale bare-metal and GPU infrastructure. Responsibilities include building production software, APIs, tooling, and automation that support infrastructure throughout its lifecycle, bridging the gap between physical hardware and customer systems used for AI, machine learning, and high-performance computing workloads.

Who can apply

Candidates must have at least five years of professional experience in software engineering, infrastructure engineering, or a related field. Applicants need strong software engineering fundamentals, experience developing production backend systems in Python or similar object-oriented languages, and practical experience with Linux in production environments. Additional qualifications include experience building infrastructure APIs, tooling, or automation at scale, familiarity with containerization and orchestration concepts, and an understanding of high-performance computing and bare-metal infrastructure fundamentals such as provisioning and out-of-band management. The role also requires the ability to navigate ambiguity, make pragmatic architectural decisions, and operate within a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

Applicants should possess a background working in startups or other fast-paced settings characterized by high ownership and autonomy. While not mandatory, ideal experience includes bare-metal hardware troubleshooting and provisioning utilizing technologies such as PXE, iPXE, BMC, Redfish, or IPMI, particularly with Dell hardware. Additional beneficial background involves working with GPU servers, network equipment including SONiC switches, Palo Alto firewalls, and Juniper Networks, high-performance storage systems like VAST, and supporting AI, machine learning, or high-performance computing infrastructure at scale.
