Overview

Imperial College London invites applications for the position of Research Associate in RF Design and Prototyping of Microwave Analog Computing within the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Funded by UKRI TITAN phase II, the role involves conducting original research in RF design, modeling, and prototyping of microwave analog computing. The appointee will design and prototype a Microwave Linear Analog Computer using both non-reconfigurable and reconfigurable microwave networks, determine the full potential benefits of this technology for next-generation wireless networks, and evaluate its feasibility. This full-time position is based at the South Kensington Campus in London, United Kingdom. The appointment is fixed-term for up to 30 September 2028, with the possibility of an extension until 31 March 2030 following the successful passage of a project mid-term review.

Requirements

Applicants for the Research Associate title must hold a PhD, or be very near completion or equivalent, in RF design, modeling, and prototyping of radio systems, reconfigurable intelligent surfaces, metasurfaces, reconfigurable microwave networks, or microwave computing, alongside a significant publication track record. Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant. Applicants must possess practical experience within a research environment or publications in relevant, refereed journals. Essential practical expertise includes microwave circuit theory, antenna design and measurement, RF system prototyping and experimentation, reconfigurable RF and microwave devices and networks, and reconfigurable intelligent surfaces, metasurfaces, or microwave computing. Candidates must also have experience presenting and publishing scientific or technical research. Applications must clearly explain the candidate's expertise and approach to designing and fabricating reconfigurable microwave networks to enable the Microwave Linear Analog Computer and perform matrix inversion in the analog domain.

What you get

The salary for this position ranges from £50,733 to £59,484 per annum.
