Overview

The Electronic and Electrical Engineering Department at UCL offers a postdoctoral research position focused on 6G wireless communications technologies. The successful candidate joins the institution to work on the EPSRC project titled Fluid antenna system synergises reconfigurable intelligent surface for 6G. This initiative builds on previous efforts regarding fluid antenna systems to explore extraordinary reconfigurability for capacity and reliability gains in mobile communication systems.

The primary purpose of the role is conducting research, design, and development within 6G fluid antenna communication systems. Responsibilities include undertaking new fundamental transceiver design and analysis through the development of optimisation algorithms, alongside participating in the design, performance optimisation, evaluation, and validation of wireless communications systems. The post is available for a fixed term of 12 months in the first instance, with potential for further funding.

Requirements

Applicants must hold or be about to submit a PhD degree in a relevant subject area, or possess similar experience demonstrated via publications in international journals and conferences. Essential qualifications include a strong background in optimisation for Fluid Antenna Systems, experience in physical layer security and covert communications, and a solid foundation in wireless communication systems and optimisation techniques. Desirable qualifications include knowledge of integrating fluid antenna systems with other 6G technologies and experience in evaluating and validating hardware measurement data in wireless channels and systems.

What you get

The position offers an annual salary ranging from £43,981 to £54,019. If the successful candidate has not yet been awarded their PhD, the initial appointment is made as a Research Assistant at Grade 6B, with payment backdated to Grade 7 upon the final submission and subsequent award of the PhD thesis including corrections.

Key dates

Applications must be submitted by 29th October 2026 at 23:59.
