Overview

Cardiff University's School of Psychology is hiring a part-time Research Assistant to join a five-year initiative focused on designing new therapies for depression and PTSD by manipulating memory during sleep. Based at the Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre (CUBRIC), the position contributes to a multi-center study funded by the Wellcome Trust and led by Penny Lewis. The specific focus of the work involves testing Targeted Memory Reactivation during sleep to help alleviate depression.

The position is offered on a fixed-term contract until 31st May 2029 for 24.5 hours per week. Work is structured as a hybrid arrangement that integrates home-based tasks with onsite laboratory responsibilities, including some laboratory experiments that necessitate overnight shifts. Current staff members at Cardiff University may apply on a secondment basis with prior approval from their line manager.

What you get

The role provides a salary between £33,951 and £36,636 per annum pro-rata at Grade 5, with standard appointments typically beginning at the base of the scale. The position also offers 45 days of annual leave pro-rata, inclusive of bank holidays, annual pay increments, access to a local pension scheme, a cycle to work scheme, and other travel initiatives. Additionally, post-holders may have opportunities to apply for a PhD during the project.

How to apply

Prospective candidates may submit their applications in Welsh or English, as Welsh-language submissions receive equal consideration. Informal questions regarding the role may be directed to Penny Lewis by including the phrase Sleep Engineering job in the message subject line. Candidate evaluations adhere to the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA), prioritizing research quality over journal identity or publication metrics.
