Overview

The University of Derby is seeking a Lecturer in Psychology within the College of Science and Engineering. This role is a fixed-term maternity cover for 12 months, scheduled to begin in February or March 2027, with the possibility of an extension depending on future circumstances. The position is based on site and is primarily offered full time, though part-time applicants are also invited to indicate their preferred working pattern.

The post holder will support the university's British Psychological Society accredited undergraduate and postgraduate curricula, which are taught through both on-campus and online formats. Responsibilities include delivering modules across core and specialist subject areas, collaborating across the college and institution, and contributing to ongoing research and scholarship initiatives.

Who can apply

Applicants should possess strong communication and collaborative capabilities to teach across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. While candidates with backgrounds across psychology are considered, the department particularly welcomes individuals with subject expertise in cognitive psychology, biological psychology, or qualitative research methods.

Individuals who have submitted their PhD thesis or are currently awaiting examination are encouraged to apply. The institution can potentially provide Skilled Worker visa sponsorship, provided candidates fulfill relevant UKVI criteria—such as qualifying based on age, relevant PhD qualifications, postdoctoral status, or the Immigration Skills List—alongside meeting English language proficiency standards.

What you get

The appointment offers an annual salary ranging from £39,560 to £46,970. The contract provides employment for a 12-month period covering maternity leave.

Key dates

The closing date for applications is 2026-11-22. Shortlisted applicants can expect interviews to take place on Tuesday 1st and Wednesday 2nd December 2026. The appointment is anticipated to commence in February or March 2027.
