PowerSwitch Action Is Hiring a Remote Communications Manager — Earn $74,000–$93,000 Per Year
Overview
PowerSwitch Action, a national network of 21 grassroots organizations across the United States working on labor, housing, racial justice, environmental, faith and neighborhood issues, is hiring a Communications Manager. The network aims to build people power and a multiracial feminist democracy and economy. The role is full-time and remote, with a starting salary of $74,000 to $93,000 per year depending on experience, and reports to the Communications Director. Ideally the person would live in a city where one of the 21 affiliates operates, though exceptional candidates elsewhere will be considered.
What you will do
The manager leads communications for one or two major campaigns or programmes at a time. Tasks include developing communications strategies and messaging, writing press releases, op-eds, blogs, emails, social posts, factsheets and video scripts, supporting spokesperson preparation and earned media, advising affiliates and allies, managing email through EveryAction and social media, coordinating content calendars, tracking audience growth and analytics, running paid advertising for list building, pitching stories to journalists and handling rapid-response work. An existing creative lead means advanced design or video skills are not expected.
Requirements
Applicants should have practical experience leading communications for organizing, advocacy, basebuilding or corporate campaigns, with email, social media and press tactics, audience growth, strong writing and editing, narrative strategy, project management and a commitment to social, racial, economic and environmental justice. Familiarity with Google Workspace, Slack and Zoom is expected. The job involves travel every one to two months and occasional evening or weekend work. Media relationships, journalism or earned media experience, coalition experience and supervising junior staff are valued but not required.
What you get
Benefits include a 401(k) with a 5 percent employer contribution, full coverage of employee and family health, dental and vision premiums, life insurance, flexible spending accounts, 12 vacation days rising to 20, 12 sick days, a six-week sabbatical after five years and a $2,000 raise on each anniversary. Pay is based on experience, not salary history. No deadline is stated.
