Overview

The University of Bath is offering a full-time, fixed-term postdoctoral research associate position within the Department of Life Sciences. The successful candidate will contribute to an interdisciplinary project focused on developing intracellular peptide screening technologies to investigate transcription factor function in mammalian cells. This role involves a 36.5 hour per week schedule with an expected duration of 12 months, based on site in the United Kingdom.

Who can apply

Applicants must hold or be close to completing a PhD in biochemistry, chemical biology, molecular biology, organic chemistry, or a related discipline, or possess equivalent relevant research experience. Candidates should have practical laboratory experience in molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, peptide chemistry, or protein biochemistry. Applicants are expected to demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills, independence in managing research activities, and the ability to collaborate within an interdisciplinary team. Good written and verbal communication skills are also required.

What you get

The position provides a salary ranging from £39,560 to £46,970 per annum at Grade 7. Full training and support are available through the interdisciplinary research team for candidates interested in developing complementary skills in either molecular or cell biology and peptide chemistry.

Requirements

Candidates must have experience in designing, conducting, and troubleshooting experiments along with an interest in protein-protein interactions, transcriptional regulation, and innovative molecular tools. Desirable qualifications include experience in mammalian cell culture, molecular cloning, transfection, cell-based assays, genetically encoded peptide libraries, intracellular screening, reporter-based selection systems, peptide synthesis, peptide cyclisation, organic synthesis, or chemical crosslinking. Familiarity with biophysical or biochemical techniques such as fluorescence polarisation, circular dichroism, isothermal titration calorimetry, Western blotting, RT-qPCR, or luciferase reporter assays is also advantageous.

Key dates

The closing date for applications is 2026-11-29.
