Overview

The University of East Anglia is offering a PhD studentship within the School of Biological Sciences. This research project investigates how temperature-sensing neurons and perceived temperature changes affect genetic inheritance and small RNAs or transposable elements in the germline. The work aims to discover if sensing heat can prepare or protect the germline before damage occurs and how these responses influence future generations of zebrafish under climate change conditions.

What you get

The successful candidate receives a fully-funded studentship subject to UKRI terms and conditions. The award covers tuition fees, a maintenance stipend of £21,805 per annum for the 2026 and 2027 academic year, and a research training and support grant. International applicants may access a limited number of studentships where the registering university waives the difference between home and international fees. Additional costs such as relocation, visas, and health surcharges are not covered by the funding.

Requirements

Applicants should have a background in genetics, evolutionary biology, molecular biology, ecology, or a related biological science. Candidates need to be curious, motivated, and collaborative. Prior experience with model organisms, molecular techniques, quantitative analysis, bioinformatics, or programming is helpful but not required.

How to apply

Candidates must meet UKRI eligibility criteria to be awarded the studentship.
