Overview

Only One is hiring a fully remote Chief of Staff to join its leadership team and work closely with the CEO on strategy, organisational planning, governance, fundraising oversight, internal communication and special projects. Only One is a philanthropically funded campaigning organisation focused on protecting the ocean and tackling climate challenges, working with governments, industry, scientists, creators, communities and partners through a global team spread across countries and time zones. The role connects long-term strategy with day-to-day execution.

Key duties include managing the annual planning cycle from goal setting to quarterly tracking, flagging conflicts over timing, budgets or capacity, running the leadership team's operating rhythm and recording decisions, planning four board meetings a year, preparing agendas and board packs, recording minutes, supporting board recruitment, induction and committees, and overseeing risk and compliance linked to its US 501(c)(3) status. The Chief of Staff also keeps an organisation-wide view of secured revenue, the fundraising pipeline and risks, helps communicate major decisions to staff, leads one or two special projects at a time, writes board papers, strategy documents, memos and proposals, and acts as a thinking partner to the CEO.

What you get

The salary is 140,000 to 170,000 US dollars, depending on experience. Benefits include generous paid time off, organisation-wide winter and summer breaks, health, dental and vision coverage or a local equivalent, an annual professional development budget, an annual full-team retreat and flexible hours.

Requirements

Candidates need at least six years of experience in senior strategy, operations or organisational leadership, with experience across strategic planning, leadership coordination, governance, fundraising oversight and operations. Strong writing is essential, particularly board-level or funder-facing material. Governance experience through board work, committees or compliance is expected. Fundraising experience, especially understanding revenue pipelines and major proposals, is useful, and a campaigning, NGO or agency background helps but is not required. The person must be comfortable working with a global team and adjusting hours when needed.
