Overview

Only One, a campaigning organisation working on ocean protection and climate solutions, is hiring a Chief of Staff for a fully remote, full-time role. The salary is $140,000 to $170,000 USD depending on experience. The Chief of Staff works with the CEO and leadership team on strategic planning, governance, fundraising oversight, internal communication and special projects. Because the team is global, the successful candidate should be willing to adjust working hours to collaborate across time zones.

What you get

Benefits include fully remote working, flexible hours, generous paid time off, winter and summer breaks, health, dental and vision coverage or a local equivalent, an annual professional development budget and the chance to join a full-team retreat.

The role leads the annual planning cycle, goal setting and quarterly tracking, flags conflicts over timing, budgets and capacity, and keeps the leadership team's operating rhythm going by preparing agendas, facilitating decisions and following up. It supports roughly four board meetings a year, including materials and minutes, and may contribute to board recruitment, committees, risk and compliance. The Chief of Staff also monitors secured revenue and funding pipelines, supports major proposals and the case for support, and helps staff understand key decisions. As a thinking partner to the CEO, the person prepares them for engagements, drafts communications and acts as a confidential sounding board. About one-fifth of the role is special projects.

Requirements

Applicants need at least six years of experience in senior strategy, operations or organisational leadership, with breadth across planning, governance, fundraising and coordination. Strong writing is essential for board papers, strategy documents, memos and funder materials. Experience supporting boards, committees or compliance, and an understanding of fundraising pipelines, are valuable. Campaigning, NGO or agency experience helps but is not essential.

How to apply

Candidates submit a resume, a writing sample and responses to the application questions. The search is supported by NRG Consulting Group, and questions can be sent to the consultancy by email.

Key dates

The preferred application deadline is 12 October 2026.
