Overview

MarAlliance is hiring a full-time, remote Grant Officer to strengthen fundraising and donor engagement for marine conservation and coastal communities. The organization is an international nonprofit that works to conserve threatened marine wildlife and keep ocean ecosystems healthy. It operates across the Mesoamerican Reef and the Eastern Tropical Pacific, partnering with fishers, governments and local organizations. The role is open to candidates in the USA, Latin America and Europe. Pay is commensurate with experience and qualifications, and paid holidays and sick time follow applicable local law and organizational policy.

What you will do

The Grant Officer is the primary writer of single-year and multi-year proposals for foundation, bilateral, multilateral and government donors. Tasks include researching funding opportunities, preparing proposals and reports, managing deadlines, building a funding pipeline, coordinating narratives, logframes, theories of change and budgets, and keeping calendars for deadlines, donor engagement and reporting. The officer helps arrange donor briefings, meetings, presentations and site visits, contributes newsletters and social media content for campaigns, keeps accurate donor records, tracks proposals and cashflow, and prepares quarterly development updates for the board. The officer works with senior leadership, development and science teams, national coordinators, communications consultants, and finance and country teams.

Requirements

Applicants need a Bachelor's degree in natural resources, marine biology, conservation, resource management or a related field, and at least five years of grant writing for institutional funders, including securing grants of 250,000 dollars or more. Marine conservation, coastal community or wildlife experience is important. Strong communication, organization and budgeting skills are needed, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM systems, especially Salesforce. Spanish reading, writing and presenting is highly preferred. Candidates must have some daily overlap with US Pacific and Eastern time zones, and occasional travel may be needed.

How to apply

Applicants send a cover letter, CV, three writing samples of successful grant proposals or reports, and contact details for three references, combined in one PDF and submitted by email with a specified subject line.
