Overview

Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH) has announced a group of jobs, internships, fellowships and field-based roles in Uganda and several other African countries. They cover public health research, clinical trials, laboratory work, data analysis, epidemiology, scientific writing and community-based research. Deadlines fall between September 18 and September 30, 2026.

Roles on offer

The Centre for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health is seeking an Intern or Mentee as a Statistician or Data Analyst, a long-term opportunity with a September 30 deadline.

For the STOP-AMDR Project, MakSPH is recruiting four Laboratory Technicians (two needing Lusamia and two Luganda, deadline September 21), two Clinicians (one Lusamia and one Luganda) and a Molecular Surveillance Team Supervisor. These short-term posts are in Buikwe and Busia districts.

For the Kisoboka II study in fishing communities, there are three Research Assistants (deadline September 24) and four full-time Intervention Facilitators. Work covers Nakasongola, Buikwe, Mukono, Kayunga and Buvuma, and successful candidates must be willing to relocate between sites and travel to islands when needed.

Other openings include a Scientific Writer (deadline September 18) and eight Qualitative Research Assistants for Buikwe and Busia districts, with some interviews at national level (deadline September 27).

Fellowships

Through the ACT-PREP programme, MakSPH offers full-time PhD Fellowships in Clinical Trials and Epidemic Preparedness and Response Research, Round 2, at partner universities in Uganda, Somalia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Rwanda, Senegal and South Sudan. It also offers full-time Postdoctoral Fellowships in Epidemic Preparedness and Clinical Research. Both have a September 30, 2026 deadline.

Who can apply
