Overview

IMPACT is recruiting a Global Communications Manager/Director for a permanent, full-time remote position based in the Ottawa/Montreal area of Canada. The salary is CAD $90,000 to $125,000 per year depending on qualifications and experience, with a working week of 37.5 hours. The post sits within the leadership team and works with colleagues across Africa and other international locations.

The successful candidate will shape and carry out IMPACT's global communications strategy, annual workplan and budget, and will advise senior leadership. The portfolio covers brand management, media relations, digital communications, publications, marketing and content development. The role manages one direct report, collaborates with five Communications Officers across Africa and coordinates external vendors and consultants.

Other duties include overseeing the editorial calendar, strengthening the organization's brand positioning, guiding country-level communications plans, and mentoring and training staff. The person will also advise the Executive Director and leadership team on reputation management, stakeholder engagement, organizational positioning and crisis communications.

Requirements

Applicants should hold a Master's degree or equivalent in communications, journalism, international development, social sciences or a related field. At least seven years of progressive communications experience is expected, including roughly three to five years managing people. Experience in an international nonprofit is particularly valuable.

Proficiency in both English and French is required, along with comfort working across cultures and African time zones. Strong editorial judgement, storytelling ability and skill at explaining complex technical issues to varied audiences are essential. Experience in politically sensitive, fragile or conflict-affected settings is an advantage, as are backgrounds in natural resource management, human rights-based approaches and social enterprise models.
