Overview

ForAfrika, an African-founded and African-led organisation with more than 40 years of work in humanitarian response, development, resilience, self-sufficiency and social enterprise, is hiring an HR Coordinator for Operations and Employee Relations. The post reports to the Human Resources Director and gives operational HR support to national and international staff at the Global Support Office and supported country offices.

What the role involves

The coordinator supports payroll and benefits, recruitment, contracts, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, staff exits, HR systems and employee records. Monthly payroll oversight covers the Global Support Office, JAGO, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia and the Central African Republic, including reviewing inputs, allowances, deductions, leave adjustments and terminations, working with external payroll providers and checking reports and reconciliations. Benefits administration covers pension or provident funds, life cover, disability benefits and medical aid or health insurance.

The role is also a first contact for grievances, disciplinary matters and workplace concerns, and may conduct or support investigations into misconduct, harassment, bullying, safeguarding concerns and Sexual Exploitation and Abuse. Confidential handling and accurate case records are required. Further tasks include preparing and amending contracts, coordinating terminations, exit interviews and final payments, and tracking probation periods and performance reviews.

Requirements

Applicants need a Bachelor's degree or diploma in human resources management, industrial relations, business administration or a related field, and at least five years of HR generalist experience including employee relations, payroll, contracts, performance management, HR operations and workplace investigations. Extra training in labour relations, investigations or payroll is an advantage, as are experience with Sage 300 People or a similar system and work across several countries or cultures. Strong communication, organisation and Microsoft Office skills are needed, with an understanding of employment legislation and procedural fairness.
