Overview

Health Care Without Harm (HCWH) is hiring a Food Commitments Manager for its U.S. team. The position is full-time and fully remote, with an annual salary of $71,600 to $82,300, and runs through 30 September 2027. HCWH is an international nonprofit working to transform healthcare by reducing its environmental impact while promoting environmental health, sustainability and social justice. With Practice Greenhealth, it supports more than 1,700 hospitals and health systems in the United States and Canada, and it has more than 80 staff.

The manager reports to the Associate Director of Supply Chain Transformation and leads projects that encourage healthcare organisations to adopt climate-friendly food purchasing and food service.

What the role involves

The manager runs commitment campaigns such as the Coolfood Pledge, the US Food Waste Pact and the Values-Based Food Purchasing Commitment, and helps hospitals cut greenhouse gas emissions through sustainable purchasing. Other duties include developing toolkits, guides, checklists, webinars and other materials, working with hospital food service teams, health professionals, suppliers and community organisations, building partnerships with distributors, manufacturers and purchasing organisations, organising meetings and events, producing presentations, reports, blogs and newsletters, and supporting the annual CleanMed conferences. The role also involves annual work plans, cross-team coordination, fundraising support, grant funder relationships, contracts, documentation and budgeting.

Requirements

Applicants need a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, at least three years of project coordination in nonprofit, government, healthcare or consulting settings, and experience in food systems, nutrition, healthcare operations or public health. Preferred are graduate education or certifications, four or more years of relevant experience, institutional food purchasing or healthcare food service experience, and familiarity with nonprofit advocacy organisations and virtual work. Required skills include knowledge of climate change and health, sustainable food systems and environmental justice, project planning, multi-stakeholder management, strong communication, developing educational resources and advocacy campaigns, and proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace and Slack.
