Overview
Graphcore offers a permanent Graduate Software Engineer position within the Drivers and Utilities team, based in Bristol, United Kingdom. This role forms part of a two-year graduate programme designed to provide hands-on learning at the boundary of hardware and software. Participants take ownership of tasks from day one, working alongside supportive colleagues to help Graphcore platforms perform efficiently. The program starts in September 2027.
Who can apply
Candidates must already possess the right to work in the UK for the full duration of the programme without requiring visa sponsorship, as the employer is unable to sponsor work visas for early careers opportunities. Applicants are expected to have introductory coding experience in C, C++ or Python, along with experience in low-level software such as device drivers, embedded software, or university and personal projects. Basic knowledge of electronics, including confidence in reading datasheets and schematics, is required, alongside practical Git experience covering branches, pull requests, reviews, merges, and awareness of continuous integration systems like Jenkins. These qualifications can be demonstrated through coursework, dissertations, research, or team projects.
What you get
The position includes a two-year graduate training program featuring dedicated support from a designated buddy, code reviews, design discussions, and participation in Scrum ceremonies. Employees receive flexible working arrangements and a retirement planning package offering up to 5 percent matched pension contributions. Additional provisions include phantom equity, income protection, life assurance, an electric vehicle scheme via salary sacrifice, and access to thoughtfully designed office spaces featuring free food and an on-site barista. A flexible benefits package allows staff to tailor options such as private medical insurance, dental cover, health cash plans, and a cycle to work scheme.
Requirements
The role involves planning, building, testing, and improving kernel drivers and user space driver libraries to support the wider software stack. Responsibilities include writing code according to Graphcore standards, creating unit tests, performing manual testing, reviewing code, and supporting the continuous integration system. Participants contribute to technical design discussions and collaborate closely with firmware, driver, utility, and system quality assurance teams.
How to apply
Interested candidates must submit an online application by answering the provided questions and uploading a curriculum vitae and a cover letter. Applicants are encouraged to apply early because applications may close before the stated deadline.
