GiveDirectly Hiring Remote Research Director, Emergency Cash — Earn £87,500 Base Salary
Overview
GiveDirectly is hiring a Research Director, Emergency Cash, a senior, fully remote role that shapes the organisation's learning agenda for emergency cash programmes. GiveDirectly has delivered more than $1 billion in cash directly to over 2 million people in 15 countries since 2011, and believes cash transfers can be a scalable, cost-effective and dignified form of aid.
The director is the internal expert on emergency cash research strategy and methods. Responsibilities include leading the research and learning agenda, owning the Theory of Change for emergency cash, defining and prioritising high-value research questions, leading strategic impact evaluations across several countries, developing research concepts and partnerships, setting standards for data collection, quality assurance, analysis and research ethics, establishing systems for data sharing, transparency and human-subject protections, mentoring research staff, developing outcome indicators, directing projects from design to implementation, representing the organisation externally, writing research briefs and policy papers, and working with partnerships and fundraising teams. The work often involves compressed timelines and incomplete information, so judgement about what research to prioritise or drop is important.
Who can apply
The role suits professionals with substantial experience in research, monitoring and evaluation, impact evaluation, humanitarian programming or development research who can work at both strategic and technical levels and engage senior leaders. Experience across multiple countries or in complex humanitarian settings is relevant.
