Overview

Movement CFO is looking for experienced Fractional Chief Financial Officers to give strategic financial leadership to social justice organisations across the United States. The role is a fully remote, project-based 1099 contractor position. Fractional CFOs act as strategic financial partners to executive directors, CEOs, leadership teams and boards, helping mission-driven organisations strengthen financial systems, improve decisions, manage risk and build long-term sustainability. The CFO reports to Movement CFO's Chief Executive Officer, Chanda Jones.

What you get

Compensation starts at $2,500 per client per month for an expected 12 to 15 hours of service per client per month, and may rise with client complexity, scope and time commitment. The number of clients may grow over time.

What the role involves

The CFO advises leaders and boards on financial sustainability, growth, risk and strategic financial decisions, and guides clients through budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and multi-year planning. They analyse financial performance and revenue trends, build scenarios, and give oversight of reporting, internal controls and systems, working with accountants, auditors and advisors. Work may include grant and contract finances, restricted funds, audits, Form 990 preparation, funder reporting and compliance, and support for organisations undergoing growth, restructuring, fiscal sponsorship or multi-entity development. The CFO also helps leaders, staff and boards understand financial information.

Who can apply

Candidates must live in the United States and be authorised to work there. They should hold a CPA, MBA or another relevant credential and have experience giving senior-level financial advice, ideally as a Fractional CFO or advisor to several organisations, plus experience supporting growth, restructuring or major transitions. Familiarity with foundations, fiscal sponsorships, advocacy organisations and multi-entity structures, including 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), PAC and LLC entities, is valuable. Movement CFO seeks strategic, systems-oriented people with strong communication skills who can work independently and manage several clients, and who are committed to transparency, ethical stewardship, equity and social justice. Qualified people are encouraged to apply even if they miss some criteria, particularly those from historically marginalised backgrounds.

How to apply

Applicants email a resume and a letter describing their interest.

Key dates

The deadline is 5 October 2026, with interviews expected to begin in October.
