Overview

The Fund for Global Human Rights is seeking a DRC Program Officer to support grantmaking, partner engagement, political analysis and human rights programming in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The role is full time, remote and structured as a 12-month consultancy reporting to the East Africa Program Director. It starts on December 1, 2026. The consultant should be based in East Africa, with the work performed in or near the DRC's Southeast region, and able to work across DRC and Burundi time zones.

The officer builds trusted relationships with current and potential grantee partners, community-led and Indigenous organisations, movements and networks, and helps identify emerging or underrepresented groups. They assess risks to partners and communities, advise and accompany them, and gather and verify information while protecting confidentiality. They monitor political, social, economic and security developments, including mining and natural resources, land disputes, extractive projects, civic mobilisation, violations, armed conflict and displacement, and feed analysis into strategy. Grantmaking duties include due diligence, grant recommendation memos and monitoring performance.

Who can apply

Candidates need deep familiarity with the DRC human rights movement and established trust among a broad range of actors, with experience working with communities in different parts of the country. They should understand security and risk and handle sensitive information responsibly. Fluency in French and English is required. Donor or grantmaking experience is preferred.
