Overview

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is looking for a Diagnostic Imaging Advisor - Medical Physicist. MSF is an international, independent medical humanitarian organization that provides emergency care to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and limited access to healthcare. The advisor joins the Diagnostic Imaging Working Group within the MSF International Diagnostic Network, which supports selection, implementation and quality control of imaging technologies across projects, with a focus on X-ray quality and radiation safety.

The post is permanent at 50%, with an expected start in September 2026. The successful candidate will generally be offered a contract through the MSF office in the country where they live when applying. Travel to support projects and field teams may be required.

Requirements

The advisor will give expert guidance on X-ray equipment, radiation protection, quality assurance and quality control. Duties include developing and piloting quality-control strategies, supporting the use of X-ray dosimeters and phantoms, drafting guidelines for personal dosimetry, advising projects, building assessment and mapping tools, writing policies and briefing materials, supporting remote and possibly on-site training for biomedical engineers and other staff, monitoring patient radiation doses and building a structured document library.

Applicants need an MSc in Physics or Biomedical Engineering and four years of post-academic specialization as a Medical Physics Expert, including Radiation Protection Expert certification. At least three years in a similar international or national role in the humanitarian, public or private sector is required, and MSF or humanitarian experience is an advantage. Candidates should have strong experience with plain and fluoroscopic X-ray equipment, including quality assurance, procurement, radiation safety and compliance, plus dosimetry and radiation-safety policy work. MS Office, with intermediate to advanced Excel, is required, as are PCXMC or similar dose-simulation software and PACS and DICOM software. Fluency in English is required and French is desirable.
