Overview

Cure Blindness Project is recruiting a Deputy Country Director for its country office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The post is a full-time senior management role at the organization, which has worked for more than 30 years with partners in over 30 countries to build high-quality, cost-effective eye care systems in underserved areas. According to the organization, its work has supported more than 2 million sight-restoring surgeries, screened over 20 million people, trained more than 25,200 eye health professionals and helped establish six eye hospitals. In Ethiopia the office works with the Ministry of Health and regional health bureaus.

What you get

The annual salary ranges from US$37,500 to US$52,000.

The role

The Deputy Country Director works with the Country Director to run operations and leads across tertiary care, outreach, primary care, monitoring, evaluation and learning, advocacy, quality and research. Duties include supporting country strategies and annual plans, overseeing daily operations in the Country Director's absence, supervising senior staff, monitoring program delivery, budgets and impact, leading needs assessments and supporting emergency response. The post also oversees the country program budget, tracks awards and sub-grants, ensures donor compliance, contributes to proposals and fundraising, and builds relationships with government, donors, NGOs, private-sector bodies and international organizations.

Requirements

Applicants need at least 10 years of leadership and management experience in an international NGO, eye care setting or related sector, and a Master's degree in management, social science, health or a related field. Strong organizational, communication, project management, analytical and facilitation skills are expected, along with excellent written and spoken English and experience in multicultural environments. Public health learning and development experience is preferred, as is proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Asana and other cloud platforms. Travel of up to 60 percent, domestic and international, and some flexibility with hours are required.
