Children Not Numbers Hiring: Volunteer Clinical Lead – Virtual Mental Health Role 2026
Overview
Children Not Numbers is seeking a Volunteer Clinical Lead (Out of Country) for its Mental Health Programme. The post is for an experienced Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, Clinical Psychologist or equivalent regulated mental health professional who wants to support children and families affected by trauma, displacement and humanitarian crises. It can be done virtually from outside the programme location and requires at least five hours per week.
What the role involves
The Clinical Lead gives specialist clinical oversight as the programme develops. Duties include advising on mental health referral systems and pathways, assessing potential in-country providers and partners, setting referral criteria and assessment checklists, and ensuring referrals are evidence-based, trauma-informed, culturally appropriate and safeguarding-centred. The lead also trains medical teams, caseworkers and volunteers to spot trauma-related warning signs, possibly using tools such as CRIES-8, and offers clinical mentoring, case consultation and support for clinical governance. The programme covers the needs of children, adolescents, pregnant women, parents and caregivers.
Who can apply
Applicants need postgraduate training or demonstrated expertise in child and adolescent mental health, trauma and psychological interventions, plus at least five years of post-qualification clinical experience. Experience with children affected by trauma, displacement, conflict or emergencies is important, and work with mothers and families in the antenatal and postnatal periods, or in Middle Eastern humanitarian settings, is desirable. Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection and humanitarian MHPSS standards is required, and Arabic is desirable. The organisation encourages people to apply even if they do not meet every criterion. All volunteers must follow child protection and safeguarding policies.
