Overview

Splash is seeking a Chief Operating Officer to provide senior operational leadership as the organisation grows its global work in water, sanitation, hygiene and menstrual health. Splash is a nonprofit founded in 2007 and headquartered in Seattle, Washington, working mainly in cities across East and Southern Africa to improve water, sanitation, hygiene and menstrual health services in public schools. The COO reports to the Chief Executive Officer and works with the management team to strengthen systems and improve execution. The position is full time and fully remote, open globally, with a preference for time zones that work well with Eastern and Southern Africa.

Responsibilities include building the operating rhythm and planning processes, setting decision frameworks and accountability systems, monitoring risks across operations, compliance and country programmes, overseeing procurement, administration, technology and security, and leading People and Culture. The COO also supports legal and contractual structures, coordinates internal communication, manages change, embeds diversity, equity and inclusion, and leads direct reports.

Requirements

Splash seeks a senior leader with typically 15 or more years of progressively senior experience, such as a COO, deputy director, managing director or senior chief of staff with substantial functional ownership. Applicants should show experience turning strategy into execution, building operating systems, managing teams with direct authority, working with founders or CEOs, leading distributed multicultural teams, and working in low- and middle-income country settings. Experience in global development, global health or WASH is relevant, as is an understanding of US-registered nonprofit operations.

What you get

The salary is US$175,000 to US$185,000 per year, depending on experience. Benefits include 18 days of paid time off rising by two days each year up to 28, 11 paid holidays, Wellness Fridays with reduced hours and two weeks of paid office closure. US-based employees receive medical, dental and vision coverage and a 401(k) with a 3% employer match. Benefits elsewhere reflect local norms and equity.
