Overview

The Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation is seeking a Chief Impact and Fieldbuilding Officer (CIFO), a newly created senior leadership position. The salary is 187,000 to 210,000 dollars per year, and the job is fully remote for people living in the Foundation's 11-state footprint in the Southeastern United States: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. The Foundation works to help people and communities move out of poverty and achieve social and economic justice, with racial equity at its centre, using grantmaking, impact investing, communications, learning, influence and partnerships.

The officer shapes the impact and fieldbuilding strategy and leads four areas: impact, learning, influence and leverage, and narrative and storytelling. They build systems that collect data, knowledge and stories and turn insights into strategy, make sure learning from grantees, partners and communities informs decisions, and help increase resources flowing to Southern communities and movements. As a Leadership Team member, they contribute to planning, budgeting, culture and systems, supervise the Learning and Impact Officer, Narrative Fellow, and Field and Influence and Leverage Officer, and support the board committee on learning and impact. They also represent the Foundation externally, with regular travel.

Who can apply

The Foundation wants a systems-oriented, collaborative, strategic leader with a record of supporting social change, in philanthropy, nonprofits, advocacy, organising, research, social impact or resource mobilisation. Evaluation, impact design or research experience is an advantage. Strong people management, facilitation, project management, communication and relationship-building skills are needed, plus experience with boards or committees and an understanding of racial equity, community power and movement-building.

What you get

The package includes a flexible remote environment, retirement contributions, health and dental coverage and other benefits, plus a three-week annual closure that does not use vacation days.

How to apply

Candidates submit a resume and cover letter explaining their interest and fit.

Key dates

Priority consideration goes to applications by September 28, 2026, though the role stays open until filled. First-round interviews run through mid-October, three client-team rounds follow from November through December, and an offer is expected in late December.
