Overview

Center for Victims of Torture (CVT) is hiring a Deputy Director of Global Clinical Services to provide operational leadership for its mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), rehabilitation and trauma recovery programmes worldwide. The position is fully remote and open to candidates based in selected countries, including the United States, Ethiopia, Jordan, Kenya and Uganda. The Deputy Director supports the Senior Director of Global Clinical Services and links clinical strategy with programme operations, so that services for survivors of torture are consistent and survivor-centred.

CVT is an international nonprofit headquartered in Minnesota, USA, with programmes across Africa, the Middle East, Mexico and other regions. Its services include trauma rehabilitation, mental health and psychosocial support, physiotherapy, case management, human rights advocacy and training for organisations that prevent and respond to torture.

What the role involves

The Deputy Director helps put global clinical strategies into practice, coordinates clinical operations across countries, strengthens work plans and processes, ensures consistent clinical standards and supports allocation of financial and human resources. Team duties include recruiting, coaching and developing staff and promoting trauma-informed leadership. The role also oversees programme quality, monitoring and evaluation and risk management with the Evaluation and Research department, builds partnerships with organisations, networks, universities and research institutions, and supports proposals, budgets, donor reports and donor discussions. Up to 20% domestic and international travel may be needed, sometimes to places with limited facilities.

Requirements

Applicants need an advanced degree in psychology, social work, rehabilitation services, public administration, international development, international affairs or a related field, at least 5 years in programme management or operational leadership, and at least 7 years in trauma, rehabilitation, mental health or psychosocial support. Experience managing donor-funded programmes, writing proposals and reports, and working with culturally diverse communities and community-based organisations is expected. Direct clinical experience with torture survivors, refugees or trauma-affected people, low-resource settings, and fluency in Arabic, Spanish, French or another language besides English are advantages.

What you get

US-based employees receive paid time off, health, dental and vision insurance options, retirement plan options, employer-paid life insurance and disability coverage. International employees receive benefits aligned with their country of residence.
