CARE Canada is hiring a Public Engagement Specialist on a 12-month contract. The post is listed as virtual and based in Canada, with a starting salary of CAD $74,000 to $79,000 per year. The specialist joins the Communications and Public Engagement team, reports to the Manager, Communications and Outreach, and leads the Canadian Public Engagement pillar of the SHE SOARS project. CARE is a humanitarian organization founded in 1945 that works against global poverty, with a particular focus on women and girls.

What the role involves

The specialist builds strategies and work plans to raise awareness among Canadian youth of global sexual and reproductive health and rights issues, and delivers public engagement through digital content, campaigns, educational initiatives and in-person events. The role also manages the Youth Public Engagement Champions model, overseeing a cohort of six Canadian youth with guidance, feedback, mentorship and professional development, and works with Youth Advisory Board members in Kenya, Uganda and Zambia to support knowledge exchange.

Who can apply

CARE Canada seeks at least four years of experience in communications, public engagement, journalism, public relations, international relations or a related field, and a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Youth engagement programme experience, mentoring of youth or volunteer teams, project management, donor reporting, digital and social media skills, knowledge of international development, and familiarity with gender equality or sexual and reproductive health and rights programming are expected. Excellent English and the ability to travel in Canada and abroad are required. French, podcast production, photography and NGO experience are assets, and candidates who do not meet every criterion are encouraged to apply. The role is not advertised as worldwide remote and is intended for people working in Canada.

What you get

Benefits include paid annual and wellness leave, extra paid holidays, a December office closure, parental leave top-up, pension contributions, an optional group RRSP, learning opportunities and flexible hours.
